MAY'S WAYS:
SPF Insulation: A Blessing or Curse
By Jeffrey C. May
Spray polyurethane foam insulation, or SPF, is
an alternative to fiberglass or cellulose insula-
tion and is frequently used in new construction.
Two red flags can be raised about the use of this
material: Odors can result from incorrect instal-
lations, and SPF dust and non-adhering droplets
can remain after SPF has been installed.

As one of the authors of the
original S520 in 2003, I consider
it a guardrail in the mold remedia-
tion industry. Guardrails serve two
purposes at the same time. They
are warnings and sometimes ob-
stacles to prevent running off the
safe path toward a specified goal
to ensure success. Which also
means that they define that path.
MOMS CLEAN AIR FORCE:
Protection Workers, Communities from Chemical Disasters By Cynthia Palmer
Often without knowing it, many
Americans live and work near
industrial facilities that use ex-
tremely toxic and flammable sub-
stances — chemicals like chlorine
(we associate it with summertime
fun, but it's highly corrosive and
can damage the lungs and other
organs), and hydrogen sulfide
(which smells like rotten eggs and
causes respiratory and neurologi-
cal disorders).
