When properly applied, SPF generally doesn't cause occu- pant complaints and seems to perform pretty much as adver- tised. But there appears to be a growing base of SPF proj- ects that have resulted in a range of IAQ-related occupant problems. Many appear to have been the result of appli- cator error or failure to use the necessary indoor environmen- tal controls during the applica- tion and curing stages. For whatever the reasons, potential buyers should clearly enter into SPF application with their eyes open by doing some front-end research on the prod- ucts and the applicator firms prior to moving forward. A good understanding of both the product's benefits and possible pitfalls is highly recommended, along with a plan to reduce any potential negative IAQ impact.
