Each month, the IAQA Government Affairs
Committee will provide an update on their
progress influencing local, state, federal, and
international policy. Below is a summary of their
full update. Please be sure to check out the full
update at be bottom of the page.
• New York: Two bills requiring mold licensing
for assessment and remediation have been
signed into law.
• Texas: IAQA members helped to force the
withdrawal of bills that would have initiated
deregulation of the Texas mold licensing pro-
grams for remediation and assessment.
• Florida: IAQA took an advocacy position
that contributed to the withdrawal of pro-
posed reforms in Florida which would have
drastically altered the responsibilities of
assessors and remediators when it comes
to mold remediation.
• New Hampshire: By the time IAQA Govern-
ment Affairs became involved in legislation for
mold assessment licensing (note that reme-
diators are not required to be licensed), the
NH Mold Coalition had successfully navigated
legislation through both legislative houses
and to Governor Hassan for signature.
• DC: the city council passed an aggressive
agenda concerning indoor air quality standards.
• Virginia: the law passed earlier this year is
relevant mostly to landlords and their respon-
sibility when it comes to mold.
• Maryland: One change occurred recently on
the MHIC website that loosened the restric-
tions for mold companies operating in MD.
Now, mold companies performing demolition
or cleaning do not need to be licensed,
according to their latest guidance.
• California: Two IAQA members have been
enlisted to discover the prospects of two bills
at issued in California.
